Microneedling is a treatment that creates controlled micro-injuries to the skin in order to aid in skin rejuvenation. Microneedling is also known as Epidermal Collagen Induction Therapy, ECIT.
Microneedling is generally well tolerated but erythema may be seen after treatment, lasting for 2-3 days. Skin may also feel warm, tight and itchy for a short period of time. With more aggressive microneedling, patients may experience some minimal to moderate scabbing.
The micro-injuries close within 60 to 90 Minutes and therefore infections are unlikely. Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) may be added to treatment to help with healing and aid in rejuvenation of skin. The procedure is well tolerated and well accepted by most patients, is cost-effective, can be done on all skin types.
