Summer in the Sun
- Skin shows signs of aging due to the sun. If you protect your skin, you’ll likely look younger. Think that just because your foundation has SPF that you can forgo sunscreen? Think again. We recommend that you wear at least SPF 30 and in reality, most foundations do not have that. Many people also forget that a lot more of your body is continuously exposed to the sun like your neck, chest and hands. In addition to wearing SPF 30, remember to reapply your sunscreen thoroughly every two hours for optimal protection from the sun’s harmful rays.
- Exposure to harmful rays increases your chances of developing melanoma, the most deadly form of skin cancer. Frequently check moles and spots on your skin for these warning signs of melanoma. It’s as easy as ABCDE!
A: Asymmetrical- the two halves of the mole do not match
B: Border- the border of the mole is uneven
C: Color- there are a couple of shades on the same mole
D: Diameter- the mole is larger than ¼ of an inch
E: Evolving- the mole changes in color, shape or size over time
Regular visits to the dermatologist are recommended to make sure your skin is healthy!
- Protect yourself from painful sunburns. This one is a bit obvious but who wants to look and feel like a boiled lobster this summer? No one wants a painful sunburn but it is more serious than that. Sunburns increase your chance of developing skin cancer. Apply some SPF, throw on a hat, or wear some sun protection clothing to safely enjoy your summer!
