Prevention is the Key to Youthful Skin
Are you making one of the biggest skin care mistakes? Don’t disregard skin care when you are younger! It is always easier to prevent than trying to fix the damage later on. Prevention is key to youthful skin.
Here are two of our favorite skin care products to prevent premature aging of the skin:
SUNSCREEN
Many people forget that the sun is still damaging in the winter, especially in here in Arizona when the weather is cooling down. Sunscreen is the best way to prevent these rays from harming your skin. Sun damage causes premature aging and brown spots. One of the easiest ways to remember to always wear sunscreen is to get a makeup product that contains sunscreen in it already. Even Up by Colorescience is one of our favorite products around the office. This 3-in-1 mineral treatment primer brightens, corrects and protects your skin with SPF 50. Even Up is slightly tinted to instantly camouflage uneven skin tone so some of us don’t even wear foundation with it! We recommend topping off Even Up or your foundation with the Colorescience sunscreen brush. It goes on seamlessly over makeup for a quick boost of SPF. It is the easiest, on-the-go application of sunscreen to stay protected from the sun. To stay optimally protected, you should reapply your sunscreen every 2-3 hours.
RETINOL
Retinol stimulates healthy cellular renewal which encourages youthful looking skin. As we age, cell turnover begins to slow down. This happens as early as our 20s! By the time you reach your 40s, the skin is hardly producing any collagen and the cell turnover is nearly stopped. Retinol works to fight off premature aging by continuing the renewal response in the skin. Because of this, your skin becomes brighter, more radiant and healthier. We offer several levels of Retinol Complex by SkinMedica to fit everyone’s different skin care needs. The lowest level is 0.25, the medium level is 0.5 and the most aggressive level is 1.0. Some patients start at a lower level and work their way up to a higher level. In addition to its anti-aging properties, Retinol was originally used as an acne treatment so those who suffer from breakouts may see less of them as an added benefit.
We hope you have a wonderful holiday season! Come visit us anytime; we’d love to address any of your skin care concerns.
