21 Years Old with Botox & Filler
It seems that some people aren’t convinced about starting Botox and fillers at a young age. Many people think, “She doesn’t even have wrinkles yet,” or “She’s 21, why is she altering her face?”
So am I too young to be receiving these treatments?
I sat in the exam room chair, fidgeting my foot as I always do when I get nervous. I had never really been a fan of needles but there were several reasons I wanted to do this.
- My mom started to get permanent lines between her eyebrows, “11’s”, in her early thirties. I heard that Botox can be used as a preventative measure against wrinkles so I was willing to try it.
- I’ve always thought that my lips were very small and with bigger lips being all the rage at the moment, I wanted to give them a boost; my favorite plumping lip gloss wasn’t cutting it anymore.
The nurse injectors made me feel at ease throughout the whole consultation process. First, Jamie asked me what I wanted to achieve that day so I explained exactly what bothered me. After taking a few notes and marking on the chart where I was going to be injected, Jamie left the room and returned with Botox for my eyebrows and Juvederm Ultra for my lips.
“We’re going to start with your lips first,” she said, wiping the numbing cream off of my lips with a damp towelette. My heart skipped a beat as she reclined my chair slightly. I had no idea what to expect. She told me to take a deep breath, then rested the needle against my top lip. I closed my eyes and waited for the pain to come. “Poke,” she said calmly as the needle penetrated my lip. I could slightly feel the filler being injected but a “poke” is truly all that it was. What had I been worried about this whole time? About 15 minutes later, we were done with the filler. It was definitely a weird sensation but I was completely fine. Jamie handed me a mirror and I admired the work she had done. They looked exactly like my old lips, just with some extra volume.
Next came the Botox. I pulled my eyebrows together again so Jamie could see exactly where she should be injecting. I hardly felt a thing. I left the office and went about my day.
Update: I couldn’t stop looking in the mirror. I loved that my lips looked so natural still and no one knew that I had gotten injections unless I chose to tell them. My Botox experience was great. It took a few days to completely take effect but when it did, I was delighted that I could still show expression but the lines wouldn’t appear. I was convinced that Botox is a preventative measure against wrinkles. It makes sense: if the muscles aren’t moving, they can’t form wrinkles.
So I know that it is not common for someone as young as I am to get Botox and fillers but I don’t see the harm in it. I feel more confident and safe in the hands of experienced injectors. The results aren’t permanent so it’s great to be able to try it without fear of commitment. I know for a fact that I will continue to get Botox and Juvederm throughout my twenties and beyond.
